Some time ago read "the old man and the sea", "the old man and the sea" is Hemingway written in Cuba in 1951, a medium-length novel, was published in 1952. 小說的全部時間非常緊湊，前后只有四天：出海的前一天，一老人從海上歸來為引子，讓周圍的人物一個個出場，交代了他們與老人之間的關系：一個熱愛他，跟他在一起學習釣魚的孩子馬諾林;一對非常自私的父母;一群尊敬他，但永遠不能理解他的打漁人;一個關心他的酒店老板。老人就生活在這樣的人物群體中，相比之下，他與眾人有著明顯的不同，他很樂觀，心胸開闊，是個經驗豐富、充滿信心、勤勞勇敢、富于冒險、熱愛生活的純樸的古巴漁民。同時，這種輪輻式結構還能產生線索清晰明了、中心集中突出、故事簡潔明快的效果。
老人說：“一個人并不是生來就要給打敗的，你可以消滅它，卻不能打敗他。”這種永不言敗的精神激勵著我們，我們不應該學習這樣的精神嗎?
