　　英語中，包含兩個或兩個以上互不依從的主謂結構的句子稱為并列句，各個相互獨立的主謂結構叫作分句，多數情況下并列句中的分句由并列連接詞來連接。并列句的分句之間關系密切，而并列連接詞是分句之間關系的紐帶，它們起著承上啟下的作用，顯示了分句之間邏輯關系，指示了說話人思維的走向。因此，正確理解和掌握連接詞語是我們能否正確理解話語篇章意義的關鍵。表示并列關系的詞語除了并列連詞(如：and，but，or，so，for等)，還有并列詞組(如：in addition，as a result等)和連接性副詞(如：however，moreover，otherwise等)，這里統稱為連接詞語。根據連接詞語的語義功能，可將其分類如下：
